Sylvia Petkova is a master of laws, who graduated Sofia University “St. Clement of Ohrid” in 2013.
Between 2010 and 2012, during her master’s degree education, she specialized in English law and law of the European Union on a joint programme of Sofia University “St. Clement of Ohrid”, the University of Cambridge and the British Law Centre.
In 2015 she completed a postgraduate qualification programme in “Normative drafting and impact assessment of policies and regulations” at Sofia University “St. Clement of Ohrid”.
In 2016 she participated as a lecturer in training seminars for executive officers. She lectured the disciplines “Impact Assessment of Draft Regulations”, “Regulatory Policy and Regulatory Reform” and “Social Impact Assessment”.
Sylvia Petkova is a criminal and human rights lawyer from the Sofia Bar Association. She is an author of more than 250 scientific and practical articles in Bulgarian and foreign legal publications.
She specializes in the defense of the accused of heavy crime who are addicted to psychoactive substances and/or gambling.
In 2021 she became a founder and a chairwoman of Policy and Legislation Monitoring Foundation. She is a partner of Marginalia” and ‘Bilitis Resource Center’ Foundation.
Sylvia Petkova is an initiator and a participant in numerous public discussions related to criminal law and human rights legislation. She has successfully led a number of cases related to police arbitrariness.
She specializes in the field of international criminal law and has taken part in numerous courses of the Council of Europe, incl.:
